NOTICE NOTICING — Solo Exhibition, 2018

untitled2.0 Gallery, Grants Pass, OR

A collection of works that offer a glimpse into one cross-section of the "American West." Artistically and academically my interests focus on the multitude of components that, when taken together, constitute the idea and reality of this land. Text and imagery have furthered the construction of an "American West" since its birth. Similarly, forms such as fences, saddle harnesses, shovels, and thundereggs are diverse yet discrete elements of this place. For me, mining and employing these various resources mirrors our relationship with the American West. Anthropologists have long questioned the primacy of "nature vs nurture" in how an individual or group develops into its unique identity or character. Through these works I am nurturing elements of the natural environment, as well as our "natural" relationship to it, to develop a character of the American West, its history, and its peoples.
